20200811 - Renewal of certificates with loss of anniversary date
It may happen that a renewal does not allow the anniversary date of the initial certificate to be kept: either the policy of the authority does not allow it, or the renewal is done on a new product (change of authority, disappearance of the initial product...).
However, the renewal period still opens 90 days before expiry and the remaining days on the initial product are lost.
So is there a way to limit this loss?
The renewal period
The renewal period does not change, it will still be possible to renew between 90 days before and 30 days after your certificate expiration.
The expiration notifications will be sent according to the same schedule, starting 90 days before the certificate expiration.
The processing options
For each renewal request you'll be proposed 2 processing options:
- immediate: your request will be processed immediately. The certificate will be delivered with the maximum validity period possible and will loose its birthday date.
Example: you request an immediate processing for the renewal of a certificate expiring 90 days later. You might loose up-to 60 days of validity. - deferred: your request will be processed about 35 days before the certificate expiration. The delivered certificate will then take account of the birthday date.
Example: you request a deferred processing of a certificate expiring 90 days later. The processing of your order will begin 55 days later (35 days before the certificate expiration). You'll be delivered a certificate valid 1 year and 30 days.
The renewal discount code
The renewal discount code are automatically applied by the system for any renewal order requested between 90 and 60 days before the certificate expiration.
In order to not penalize our customers even more, we have modified the use period a those discount code. They will now be applied between 90 and 30 days before the certificate expiration.
The other validities
Package offers are not affected by these changes. The authorities deliver the certificates for the maximum allowed validity period and the expiration date is recalculated at each reissue.
The automated renewals
For plans: no modification. For the others certificates: the default choice wiil be a deferred processing.

If you chose a deferred processing you can request an immediate processing by sending an e-mail to marc.hello@tbs-certificates.co.uk and let the audit tea know.
If you chose an immediate processing, you can change your mind as long as the certificate has not been ordered to the certification authority. To do so, send an e-mail to marc.hello@tbs-certificates.co.uk.
