Use a Microsoft Authenticode or VB (multiple plateforms) certificate
First of all, make sure you are in possession of either signcode or signtool. The first one is not available anymore, it has been replaced by the second one, available here:
Signature instructions:
- Sign with signtool (registry / Vista and following)
- Sign with signtool (.pfx file or .pvk and .spc files)
- Sign with signcode (.pvk and .spc files)
- What is this password requested by signcode ?
- I can't find the mykey.pvk file!
- What is the lifetime of a digital signature?
Each code signing certificate has a specific validity period (delivery date ans expiration date). A digital certificate can be used to sign code as often as needed during this validity period. When the certificate expires every digital signature created from this certificate expire as well unless they had been timestamped. A timestamp option indicates the day the code has been signed allowing customers to check the validity of the certificate at the moment the signature has been done. - Smartscreen does not recognize my signed object

Use the Authenticode certificate on other platforms
Your Authenticode certificate can be used on other software platforms after a convertion. But we do not provide any support for this kind of takedown and their proper functionning is not guaranteed. To convert your certificate, see here: http://search.thawte.com/thawte/solution.jsp?id=vs26925
