eIDAS European security standard
Just as the RGS stabdard in France, EIDAS will oversee electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the European Union's internal market. It will the replace Directive 1999/93/EC considered as insufficient.

eIDAS assurance levels
Like RGS, eIDAS provides several security levels, each level corresponding to an authentication level and allowing to execute different kind of e-government procedures.
- Simple: limited degree of confidence in the claimed or asserted identity of a Person to decrease the risk of misuse or alteration of the identity
- Advanced: substantial degree of confidence in the claimed or asserted identity of a Person to decrease substantially the risk of misuse or alteration of the identity
- Qualified: higher degree of confidence in the claimed or asserted identity of a Person to prevent misuse or alteration of the identity

When?
eIDAS regulation will be fully applied as of July 1st, 2016 by each member of the European Union and will replace each local regulation of the concerned countries.
At this date will be published the definitive list of certificates recognized as eIDAS compliant and of their respective assurance level.
