How are delivery times calculated?
Delivery times are displayed at each key stage of your purchasing process:
They are displayed on product comparisons as well as on order forms, then on the order confirmation page or in our confirmation emails.
Several factors are taken into account to best refine the delivery date provided to you.
Standard delivery times
Each product has a specific delivery time determined by the type of product and its own audit procedure.
These delays can be multiplied by 2, 3 or more on an ad hoc basis. It happens that disruptions impact suppliers and their delivery times (breakdown, reduced team due to leave for example, busy news, etc.).
Standard delivery times as well as possible supplier delays are displayed on our FAQ and updated regularly.
Calculation of delivery times when submitting the order
Standard delivery times give us a solid basis for determining when you can expect delivery. However, there are several other pieces of information directly related to your orders that allow us to fine-tune the delivery time, either upwards or downwards.
The CSR
When placing a certificate order, a CSR is usually requested (with rare exceptions). If the CSR is missing or not correctly filled in, the delivery time will be increased:
A CSR issue requires manual processing by our teams.
However, it is easy to fix the problem directly during the order process by regenerating a new CSR with our KeyBot tool (by returning to the previous page) or from your server with the information displayed.
These corrections are deducted from previous orders or from information relating to the organization of the order.
The pre-validation
DigiCert and Sectigo have implemented a system of pre-validation of the organization and domain (only for DigiCert).
Note: Pre-validations are only available from a Certificate Center. Orders placed from the public website are not affected.
These pre-validations are created during the audit of an order or at the request of the client from the "pre-validation" section of their Certificate Center. From this page, it is possible to consult the list of all your pre-validations in progress, expired or valid or even to create a new pre-validation. Learn all about pre-validation.
Once a pre-validation is in place, the orders are processed automatically by the authority that has already done the audit work upstream. Delivery times are then revised downwards:
Warning: A pre-validation is linked to a specific organization and contact. If the corporate contact changes, the pre-validation cannot be applied.
The domain pre-validation
Offered only by DigiCert, domain pre-validation allows you to bypass the DCV challenge.
Likewise, it is created during the audit of an order or at the request of the client from the “DigiCert Domains” section of their Certificate Center.
Order data
Certain elements of your order may also lead to manual processing by our audit teams:
- a comment left on the form must be read and processed
- a change of address of the organization
- an inconsistency between the bearer of a certificate, the corporate contact
- a contact update…
Some items can be corrected immediately by returning to the order form and others will need to be managed:
Order automation
Each certificate request must be processed by an agent before being transferred to the authority.
However, we have also implemented an automation system when a similar request has already been processed recently.
An automatable order is transferred to the authority without passing through the hands of a TBS agent.
What is not taken into account in the delivery time
Certain elements such as DCV validation, payment of the invoice or sending of the purchase order are not taken into account in the delivery time, because we have no control over the handling directly incumbent on the customer.
The revised delivery date
It is displayed on the order confirmation page:
In the ideal case where no errors are detected, with pre-validation and automation, delivery times can be reduced to a few hours!
So, pay close attention to the messages displayed on your confirmation pages, they are there to help you optimize your requests.
