Renewing a certificate with Microsoft IIS 7

In order to renew properly your certificate under IIS 7 you will have to create a new certificate request.
Indeed, IIS 7 generates a CSR with a longer key and it sometimes makes the CSR incompatible and can provoke a bug on the renewal function.

And instead of using the renewal function of IIS 7, we advise to follow the instructions for the "creation of a new certificate under IIS 7", to do so:
  1. Generate a CSR with Microsoft IIS7
  2. For a renewal, the CN field (Common name / domain name / server name) must be strictly the same than in the original certificate. Actually, if there is no modification and in order to speed up the renewal procedure, fill in all the other fields (C: Country, ST: State, L: City, O: Organization, OU: Organizational unit / Division / Branch) with the exact same information than in the original certificate (see your status page). Get more information: Obtain a server certificate).

  3. Renew your certificate by clicking on the link provided in the e-mail you received. Copy/paste the new CSR in the order form.

  4. Once the certificate received, go back to your certificate's status page to download the pkcs7 (.p7b) file and follow the instructions to install a Microsoft IIS7 certificate.
