Signature / Encryption with Outlook 2000

Once your certificate delivered, you'll have to import it in Outlook 2000. If you did not create the PKCS12 file yet, consult your browser's documentation to do so (see Install a client certificate).

Importation

First of all, import your PKCS 12 file in Outlook. See Import a PKCS 12 certificate for Outlook.

Configuration

  • Go to Tools / Options / Security and:
  • Check: add digital signature to outgoing messages
  • Check: Send clear text signed message
  • But untick: Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages
Outlook automatically uses the certificate found in the Windows registry and matching the account e-mail address.

Some older versions of Outlook (2000) cannot automatically select a certificate. In that case:
  • Go to tools / Options / Security / Setup Secure E-mail
  • Click the Choose button to select a certificate
  • Check Send certificates with signed messages
Warning: French Outlook 2000 were bridle to prevent them from managing certificates and encryption. You might not be able to unbridle your software but there might be a solution with pack services, pack release and out128.exe installation. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/202181

Run a test

Outlook is now ready, run a test by sending a signed e-mail to tag-smime-demo-en@tbs-internet.com

I the test is negativa and your outgoing message has not been sent, try to use the Setup button to specifically indicate the certificate to use.
