Signature / Encryption with Thunderbird
Once your certificate delivered, you'll have to import it in Thunderbird. If you did not create the PKCS12 file yet, consult your browser's documentation to do so (see Install a client certificate).
Importation
First of all, import your PKCS12 file in Thunderbird. See Import a PKCS12 certificate for Thunderbird.
Configuration
To do so:
- Select Tools / Options
- In dialog box that appears select Advanced
- Click on Manage certificates
- Browse to the location of your PKCS12 certificate and enter any necessary passwords
Sign your emails by default:
- Select Tools / Account settings
- In dialog box that appears select Security tab
- Select the appropriate certificates you wish to Sign and/or Encrypt your mails
- Tick the case Digitally sign messages (by default)
- Click Ok
Thunderbird will now automatically sign your emails.
Run a test
Thunderbird is now ready, run a test by sending a signed e-mail to tag-smime-demo-en@tbs-internet.com.
Knows issues
If you have a disk encryption software like "Cryod", your Thunderbird client may not work properly after installing the certificate.
One solution for now : uninstall encryption software and reinstall your certificate.
