Import a PKCS 12 certificate for Mail

If you have a PKCS 12 file (.pfx or .p12 extension) containing a certificate and if you want to use it with Mail you will have to import it first.

To do so, use the keychain Access Application:
  • Launch Applications / Utilities / Keychain Access
  • Select File / Import in the menu
  • Select the key chain in which it will be imported. If it is a client certificate choose Session or Login. for an authority certificate (root or intermediate) it would be X509Anchors.
Your certificate has been imported such as its certification chain (if the PKCS 12 contained one).

You can now configure your software: Signature / Encryption with Mail Mac OS 10.3+
