Signature / encryption with Outlook Express 5.5+
Once your certificate installed in Windows via Internet Explorer, you'll have to activate the certificate user in Outlook Express.
Configuration
To do so, with a version 5 of Outlook Express:
- Open Outlook, click on Tools / Accounts, then on the tab Mail, and double-click on your usual e-mail account.
- Click on the tab Security
- check the case Use a digital ID...
- click on the button digital identification.
- You should see the certificate you just obtained. Select it, validate then close all the opened boxes. If you do not see it, it means the email account address does not match the certificate email address!
- Click OK
- Go to Tools / Options / Security and:
- Check Digitally sign all outgoing messages
- Click on the button Advanced
- Set to warn on less than 128 bit encryption
- Make sure the boxes Always encrypt to myself when sending encrypted email, Include my digital ID when sending signed messages and Add senders' certificate to my address book are checked.
With Outlook Express 6:
- Open Outlook, click on Tools / Accounts, then on the tab Mail, and double-click on your usual e-mail account.
- Click on the tab Security
- Click on Select
- You should see the certificate you just obtained. Select it, validate then close all the opened boxes. If you do not see it, it means the email account address does not match the certificate email address!
- The second part is automatically filled.
- Click OK
- Go to Tools / Options / Security and:
- Check Digitally sign all outgoing messages
- Click on the button Advanced
- Set to warn on less than 128 bit encryption
- Make sure the boxes Always encrypt to myself when sending encrypted email, Include my digital ID when sending signed messages and Add senders' certificate to my address book are checked.
run a test
Outlook is ready. run a test by sending a signed e-mail to our bot tag-smime-demo-en@tbs-internet.com
You'll receive 8 test messages including a recap one. Read this one first.
If this is the first time you receive a signed message with this software, a help information will appear. The message encrypted with AES128 cannot be read with this software, it is not compatible.
